Abu Ogogo Pre Oxford United

Midfielder looks ahead to the final game of the season

Shrewsbury Town Midfielder Abu Ogogo is hopeful that Town can end the season on a high when they take on Oxford United on Saturday.

Town beat Southend last Saturday, a result which all but secured Town’s place in League One for next season.

Ogogo was delighted to get the win against Southend and is now looking for a professional performance against Oxford on Sunday.

“There’s was a bit of relief”, Abu told ShrewsWeb.

“We knew how important those three points were, but we couldn’t enjoy ourselves too much because we’ve got the game to come on Sunday.

“Myself, Sads and a few others won’t let the boys get too carried away. Obviously, you don’t want to go out there at Oxford and get battered six-nil, that’s embarrassing, so after Sunday we can enjoy it properly.”

“You don’t want to go out there and get embarrassed in front of people, but I’m sure that isn’t going to happen. The boys here are all professionals, so we will go out there Sunday, get a result and then enjoy ourselves.”

“Every game you need to put on a show whether it’s in the league, cup competitions or preseason you want to impress the Gaffer, so you don’t want to go out there and have a stinker and not try because the gaffer will remember that for next season.”

Oxford have had a good season in League One  after being promoted last season and Abu is expecting a tough game.

“Oxford have done well”, said Ogogo.

“I think they are about 10th, so they have been pushing for the play-offs, but they just missed out. When we played them here they passed the ball well, but we managed to get the result.

“It’s going to be tough down there because they’ve got a big pitch and they like to pass the ball, but so do well, so hopefully we can go down there and get the right result.

“With the supporters coming down and travelling you don’t want to go down there and lose because they have obviously travelled a long way, so you want win it for them as well.”
