Advanced Development Centre (Ludlow) Enjoy Cardiff Festival Success

Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Advanced Development Centre (Ludlow) have emerged victorious on their recent visit to a mini festival at Penybont FC, where the under 9’s lifted the trophy.

The under 10’s side also made it all the way to the final of the competition arranged by Cardiff City FC, but were unlucky to just miss out on a second Town trophy on the day.

Both teams opened up the festival with victories over West Brom (Worcester), with the U9’s winning a tight game 1-0 and the U10’s producing some clinical finishing to run out 4-0 winners.

Cardiff City were the teams’ next opponents, with the U10’s losing by just one goal and the U9’s picking up their second 1-0 victory to take a maximum 6 points from 2 games.

The third and final group games were both tight affairs against West Bromwich Albion (Black Country) with the U9’s suffering their first taste of defeat losing 1-0, but the U10’s got back on track with a victory by the same score line.

Both teams progressed to the semi-final stages, where the U9’s defeated a resilient Cardiff City team with the U10’s would also winning their semi-final against West Brom to progress to the finals.

The U10’s faced hosts Cardiff City in the final and were unlucky to be beaten in a game which could have gone either way. The U9’s would come out on top in their final against the Baggies though, to take the U9 Trophy back to Shropshire.

South Shropshire Development Manager, Steve Brotherwood praised the commitment of the players on the day, and said:

"All the lads have performed fantastically well throughout the day and represented Shrewsbury Town FC impeccably. It is a great experience for them all to travel to fantastic facilities and compete against players from other clubs in fixtures and mini festivals."

"To come out of their comfort zone and to perform as they did is a big test of their character, and a fantastic opportunity in their development.

"Congratulations to all the players who represented Shrewsbury Town FC at the Cardiff City Mini Festival."
