Town take up option on Abs Contract

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce that they have taken up an option on Abu Ogogo’s current contract which extends his stay with the club for a further year.

Abu had a clause which meant that the club could take up an option on his deal if he played enough games this season.

He has managed to achieve that target despite the injury which has kept him out for the last third of the season and Manager Paul Hurst was pleased that the clause had been taken up.

“I was aware of that situation when I arrived and he has ticked off the games which have allowed us to do that”, Paul told ShrewsWeb.

“I’ve said from the start that he is the right type of character that we want at the football club. He’s captained the side at times as well, so I’m pleased that we’ve got that option and that we will take it up.

“He wears his heart on his sleeve when he’s playing and everyone can see the effort that he puts in and that will to win and that’s what we want from all our players moving forward.”

Ogogo picked up a season ending injury in the one-nil win over Scunthorpe United back in February, but recently returned to training and Paul is positive about his recovery.

“He’s maintained a good attitude during his injury and he’s always had a smile on his face”, said Hurst.

“When he’s out there that smile disappears slightly and he gets his more serious head on, but it’s great to have him back out there and it will be a step forward for him

“It doesn’t mean he will be involved for us in terms of making the starting line-up, but the progress he’s made has been very promising and we will manage him between now and the end of the season.”
