With 14 players added to squad gaffer praises chairman

Shrewsbury Town Manager Paul Hurst has praised Chairman Roland Wycherley for his backing in the summer transfer window.

The signings of Omar Beckles and Ben Godfrey this week has taken the number of new players up to 14.

Furthermore, five players signed with first professional contracts with the club this summer, whilst four players signed new deals.

This week’s signings are believed to be Paul’s final deals in this window and he has thanked the club for supporting him.

“I think the Chairman will be the one that will sleep better now”, smiled Paul.

“I’ve certainly tested him. I think every Chairman gets criticism at some point, but from my time with the football club he has supported me 100% and given me the licence and backing to assemble a squad.

“Ultimately, we both have the hope and ambition that we will be very competitive and have the best season that we have had in recent times.

“He wants to win on a Saturday, the same as myself. I can assure you that it hurts him when we don’t win and he was certainly troubled last season when we found ourselves in a precarious position.

“He wants the best for the football club and he’s certainly showed that to me and I think the fans will hopefully see that also.”
