Nolan looks ahead to the trip down south

Shrewsbury Town midfielder Jon Nolan is hopeful that Town can pick up another three points on Saturday.

Nolan has been one of Town’s star performers so far this season, impressing in the games against Northampton and Nottingham Forest.

Town face AFC Wimbledon tomorrow afternoon and Jon is expecting a physical battle.

“We got off to a good start on Saturday with three points”, said Nolan.

“I think three points away at Wimbledon would be good. Obviously it’s a tough place to go. I think it will be a bit of a battle, but if we can come out of their victorious them it will set us up well for the season.

“I played there last season for Chesterfield and it was a pretty ugly game. They were all about six foot five, but I think if we can come through the battle then our football will show.”

Town have played with three central midfielders in their first couple of games and Nolan believes his relationship with Abu Ogogo in particular will only get stronger.

“I said to Abs that he compliments me really well”, said Jon.

“He does most of the dirty work. He’ll tackle and then just give the ball to me, so hopefully our relationship can grow this season.

“I hope there is more to come from me. I hope I can chip in with a few goals and assists and obviously better performances.”

The former Everton Academy player can play in a number of positions within the midfield and he is hopeful of adding goals to his game.

“I like to be a playmaker and a goalscorer”, said Nolan.

“At Grimsby I think I scored 5 goals in 17 games under the Gaffer. Doigy’s on my case a bit saying I need to shoot more, which I agree with because sometimes I need to be a bit more selfish.

“Instead of looking for that final pass I should just shoot from 25 yards because if you don’t shoot you don’t score.”
