LADIES: Pete Wilson Pre Crewe

Pete looks ahead to the Ladies second pre-season friendly

5 August 2017

Shrewsbury Ladies’ Technical Director Peter Wilson says he is relishing the challenge of Crewe when they face off at the Alexandra Soccer Centre on Sunday.

Alex Owens’ side make the trip on the back of a 4-2 win over Kidderminster last weekend, but go into their second game of pre season with a number of injury concerns.

The Ladies will be without the likes of Tania Prior, Louise Wilkes, Chloe Howells and goalscoring debutant Katie Doster, but Wilson hopes none of the injuries will be too severe.

“Lou’s ankle gave way under her during the game, which is unfortunate,” he said.

“It was her first game in six months, but she’s in good hands with Azza (club physio) and he seems positive in terms of how quick she’s going to return.

“We lost Katie Doster with a head clash late on as well. We think hers is going to be a week or so, so we’re looking at the Wolves game for when she will return.

“We could get her in for Crewe, but we’ll assess that later in the week.

“Tania Prior, again just coming back for her first game of pre season but we were expecting knocks.

“Hopefully she’s able to start doing a bit of light work and do a full session in training.

“Chloe Howells’ injury is being assessed by Azza as well so again, we’re hopeful and think she’s a couple of weeks.

“We’re hopeful that we’re going to get them all back, but it was as expected.”

Wilson hopes the Ladies can bring last week’s performance against a side who are two leagues above the Shropshire side, but is confident of getting a result.

“I think we know the team dynamics a little bit better now, having seen them play we can go forward and work with what we’ve got,” he said.

“We’ve worked very defensively out of possession for the last few weeks, obviously we’re playing Crewe who are two leagues above us and we’re probably playing a mixture of their development squad as well.

“We think we can go and take the game a little bit to them.

“We’re still going to look at the things that went not so quite right on Sunday, and we’ll work from there really.

“But we’re really positive and looking forward to getting that second game under our belt.”
