Town Pledge £20k To Safe Standing

Shrewsbury Town FC contribution boosts Safe Standing campaign

Today saw a huge step forward for the Crowdfunding Campaign to create England’s first safe standing area in the Salop Leisure South Stand at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

With the campaign, which was launched by the STFC Supporters Parliament, having reached £20,000 raised since launch, the club have pledged their support to the cause by committing a further £20,000 to the project.

The campaign now stands at 53% of its target, with a further 19 days to go. Supporters Parliament Joint Chairman Roger Groves said of the club’s contribution, “From the start this has been a supporter-led project and campaign and so far well over 500 fans, both Shrews and from other clubs, have done their bit to create a milestone for football in England and Wales. We are delighted that the club has decided to support us with such a fantastic contribution.”

“We still have a long way to go, but the momentum has been steadily increasing and this is obviously a massive boost for us. We’re really confident we will get there – the awareness is building across the country and we’ve still got plenty of great things to come on the campaign.”

One of those new things is the guarantee of a space in the safe standing area to anyone purchasing the “Engraved in history on a rail seat” reward. Anyone buying this reward, or the “Combo deal” with VIP tickets to the Grand Opening will have first refusal on a season ticket in the standing area, and their name will be engraved on the rail seat they occupy. Numbers will be strictly limited, however, to ensure existing season ticket holders in the area are given priority.

Brian Caldwell, CEO of Shrewsbury Town FC, said: “With the milestone of £20,000 reached we have taken to the decision to match that amount to help the project pass the 50% mark. We’re really excited to be the first club with the chance to have a safe standing area in England or Wales. The club has supported the Supporters Parliament since they first came to us with the idea and we will continue to back them.”

There is still a chance to win a season ticket in the safe standing area for the last games of the 17/18 season AND the whole of the 18/19 season too – raffle tickets are available on the platform.
