Godfrey looks ahead to the visit o

Shrewsbury Town Midfielder Ben Godfrey is hoping that Town can kick 2018 off in style when they take on Oldham on New Year’s Day.

Town’s home record was magnificent in 2017 and they have lost just once at the Montgomery Waters Meadow this season.

They won their last two home games against Blackpool and Portsmouth and Godfrey wants to continue that form against Oldham.

“You don’t want to kick it off with a loss obviously, said Ben.

“Hopefully, it’s another three points that we can grab and keep the ball rolling. You want your home stadium to be a bit of a horrible place to come and I think we’ve done that this year.

“We’ve lost just once in the league at home this season and I hope people see our home ground as not a nice place to come. The support we get when we play at home is unbelievable, so hopefully they keep that up.”

Town sent Oldham to the bottom of League One when they beat them 2-1 earlier in the campaign, but the visitors have picked up since then and Ben is expecting a more confident Oldham side.

“They are going to come at us and it’s going to be tough”, Godfrey said.

“They’ve got some good players and some quality in their squad. I remember the away trip there and I think they missed a good chance to win it, so we’ve got to give them the respect they deserve.

“I think they’ve performed better closer to this period than they did at the start, so it’s going to be another tough game and we expect that.

“They will be confident, so they will come at us because they will back themselves a bit more than last time, but hopefully we keep our home form up to what it’s been and we can get a good result.”
