Dave Edwards lends the club some Euro 2016 memorabilia

Former Shrewsbury Town Midfielder Dave Edwards has kindly lent the club a framed shirt and picture montage depicting Wales’ Euro 2016 encounter against England.

The montage includes the shirts that Dave and fellow Salopian and current England Goalkeeper Joe Hart wore on the day of the game.

It was the first and so far only time that the former Shrewsbury colleagues have played against each other in international competition with England winning the game 2-1 as Joe played the full ninety minutes, whilst Dave came on as a 67th minute substitute.

Dave was at the Montgomery Waters Meadow yesterday for the signing of his new book ‘Living My Dream’ and ShrewsWeb caught up with him to ask him about the shirts.

“It’s probably courtesy of my wife a little bit because I got them framed and she said that there was no way they were going in our house”, joked Dave.

“I thought it would be a nice one to get framed anyway and once I got it framed I asked the Chairman if they would like it and he said that they would love it.

“At least it’s going somewhere that Shrewsbury fans can look at it with a bit of pride knowing that their players have gone onto play in major tournaments.

“Me and Joe have been great friends since a young age and our paths have crossed quite eerily as we’ve grown as professionals - none more so than playing in a major tournament.

“There are some other pictures up there as well of me and Joe and I am grateful that the club hold me in that high esteem and it’s great to be able to give that back to them as well.”
