Mat Sadler Pre Portsmouth

Sadler looks ahead to Portsmouth

Shrewsbury Town Defender Mat Sadler is expecting a difficult game when Portsmouth visit the Montgomery Waters Meadow tomorrow.

Portsmouth have lost just once in their last six matches and now sit just outside the play-offs on goal difference.

Sadler is expecting a good atmosphere from the travelling support and a tough encounter.

“Every single game is difficult”, Mat told the Press.

“We went to Bury and they were bottom of the league at the time and that was a difficult night, so there will be no additional difficulty because every game is competitive in the Football League and this is going to be another competitive and tough test for us at home.

“They always come in numbers and follow their team. You go down to Portsmouth and you see them walking around in their strips whatever the weather, they are a hardy bunch.

“They’ve been through some tough times but they look like they are on the up. They’ve got a good manager in Kenny Jackett who has been there, seen it, done it and they have the makings of a very good outfit.”

However, Sadler believes that last weekend’s win against Blackpool put some confidence back into the Town squad and he is looking to make it two wins from two.

“Because of how good a start to the season we had made I think there was a little bit being made of us going one win in five, which was by no means a crisis, but for our own motivations of wanting to be right at the top of the division it was a game that we wanted to win because it was our next home game more than anything”, said Mat.

“It was a little bit reminiscent of some of our other performances this season and there was a bit of a feeling of being back to where we were, but in real terms it was a good home victory against a very good team and a solid performance.

“These little runs that come together are great when you look back on them, but in reality you are only ever focusing on the next football match and the next one is another good home game against a team that will bring a good away following and that are in good form, so it’s got the makings of a really good game.”
