A quick look back at what happened in years gone by

Club Statistician Kevin Davies has had a look through the archives and found some of the stories which have made the headlines between the 27th February and the 5th March.

27.02.1924. First Division Cardiff City defeat Town 3-0 at Ninian Park in the Welsh Cup third round replay in 1924.

Town had held the Championship chasing Welshmen to a goalless draw at the Gay Meadow two weeks earlier.

28.02.1914. After defeating Brierley Hill 5-0 at home, Darlaston 4-2 away, Willenhall 3-2 at the Gay Meadow, Town complete a 100% month in the Birmingham League by defeating Wolves away 2-1 in 1914, Bishop and Weate the marksmen.

Town were defeated 3-2 by Aston Villa Reserves in their first game in March and finished the Birmingham League season in 2nd place.

1.03. Junior Bent (1970), Luke Male (1993) and Kaiman Anderson (1997) all share today as their birthday.

Junior Bent made six loan appearances for Town from Bristol City, whilst youth graduate Male never played for Town and Anderson is still awaiting his first team debut.

2.03.2007. Bristol Rovers visit the Gay Meadow in 2007 and share the points in a nil-nil draw.

This is the first goalless game on this date in 25 years since Town drew away to Sheffield Wednesday.

3.03.1992. Town host Fuham in 1992 and draw 0-0, the seventh time that Town had failed to find the net in their last nine matches on this date stretching back to 1928 when they drew two-all at Oakengates.

Other games in which Town failed to score on this came against Carlisle and Portsmouth to name just two.

4.03.1986. Town visit Boothferry Park, Hull, in 1986 and lose a seven goal thriller 4-3, a result only previously matched on eight previous occasions in their Football League history.

Town finished the season in 17th place whilst Hull finished 6th.

5.03.1949. The game at Bradford City reserves in 1949 is abandoned at half-time due to a severe snow storm with the score standing at one-all.

The game was replayed on the 25th April with Town winning one-nil thanks to a goal from Phillips.
