Shrewsbury Town’s Under 18’s came from two goals down on Saturday to draw two-all with Preston North End in the EFL Youth Alliance.

It was Preston who started the brighter and took the lead on 11 minutes when Town failed to deal with a corner and Tom Stead headed home.

Town almost levelled on the quarter of an hour mark as Preston defender Callum Tait was forced to clear off the line, but the home side doubled their advantage when Tom Barry was brought down in the box and Melle Meulensteen slotted home for the Lilywhites.

Town responded well with George Hassell and John McAtee going close before the later halved the deficit with a header into the far corner after a cross from Chris Gallagher.

Town continued to look for an equaliser before half-time, but Preston came close to a third as Cameron Gregory was forced into a good save down to his right on the stroke of half time.

It didn’t take long for Town to get back on level terms after the break as Tyrone Ofori tucked home at the back post on 48 minutes after a deep cross from Harri Lovett.

The second half was a quieter affair as neither side created many clear cut chances. Ofori almost won it with five minutes to go but his shot was well saved by Callum Roberts in the Preston goal.
