Paul Hurst on Rodman SigningShrewsbury Town Manager Paul Hurst has spoken of his delight after Town signed Alex Rodman on an 18 month deal.
Rodman has previously played under Hurst at Grimsby and Paul is looking forward to working with him again.
“I believe that we can get the best out of Alex”, said Paul.
“When we worked with him before he had a good move to Scotland arranged that fell through because of a managerial situation, but we’ve kept in contact with him and he’s got ability. It’s about whether myself and Chris can get the best out of him, but we believe that we can do that.”
“He’s a winger and he can beat players. I would suggest that he is quicker than he looks because of how he glides, but he’s got good ability, he can score goals and for me he fits the bill.
“We’ve signed him permanently on an 18 month deal, but again I think he’s got a little bit to prove and hopefully he can go out there and show what he’s about.”
This will be the first time that Rodman has featured at League One level but Paul believes his signing helps bolster the group.
“For me he’s got the ability”, said Paul.
“For whatever reason he hasn’t had the opportunity in his career that have perhaps stopped him getting that little bit higher, but for me there is certainly a place in this division for someone with Alex’s ability.
“I do feel that by bringing him in, and if we can bring in a few more, we will certainly have better options even if it’s just to come off the bench.
“I feel from looking at other squads we have come up against they have had an advantage over us on that front and by the end of this window I want to be in the position where if the starting 11 aren’t doing what I would like, I can turn around and have some good options.
“So, that is the aim and hopefully he will be part of that. In his own minds I’m sure he will be wanting some starting places and hopefully he can produce the form that will see him do that.”
