Shrewsbury Town forward Louis Dodds is now looking forward to the season starting as Town look ahead to their final pre-season friendly.
Town take on Burton Albion tomorrow afternoon with the season opener against Northampton just over a week away.
“It’s been a long old slog, a lot of running, a lot of hard work, but I think the lads are almost there fitness wise and I think one last 90 minutes and we will be good to go”, Louis told ShrewsWeb.
“For people like me pre-season is a slow burner. You come in and try and get your fitness and I think when you start playing games is when you really get your fitness.
“I felt good and sharp against Cardiff. From speaking to a lot of the lads everyone felt a bit sharper than they had done in previous games and the training load has come down a little bit now, so we can really put the emphasis into the games.”
Town go into the game against Burton on the back of a three game unbeaten run against Championship opposition and Louis is looking to approach it in the same way.
“I think it will be similar to Cardiff in the fact that they will be up for it”, said Dodds.
“I think it might be a little bit more physical that the Villa game and the Wolves game because of the type of players they are and the type of team they are.
“We’ve got to approach it like we have the last few games and hopefully put in a good performance and get minutes under our belts.
“It’s alright playing tippy tappy football and then the season starts and we are never really going to play that style, so it will be good to get the last 90 minutes under our belts and then get the season started with a win over Northampton.”
