Talent Spotters Needed

Academy looking to build up recruitment team

2 June 2017

Shrewsbury Town’s Academy are looking for new talent spotters to help find the best young footballers in Shropshire.

Town’s Academy has built-up a fantastic record for producing talented young players in recent years with the like of Joe Hart and Dave Edwards receiving international honours, whilst Connor Goldson, Jon Taylor, Tom Bradshaw and Ryan Woods have all become regulars in the Championship.

The club are now on the lookout for their next potential star and are looking to recruit local scouts to watch games across the county.

The plan is being put together by Recruitment Analyst Adam Henshall and he spoke to ShrewsWeb about the importance of Academy recruitment.

“It’s something that the club has done fantastically well over the last 10 years, but the more of them we can produce, the more money we can bring into the football team”, said Adam.

“Recruitment at that level is vitally important and there are vacancies for talent spotters within the area of Shrewsbury and Shropshire to watch local games for us.

“I hate seeing local players going to play for teams like Wolves. As a youngster myself I lived in Shrewsbury and I went and played for Stoke and that doesn’t quite sit right for me now.

“The talent that is on our doorstep is something we cannot ignore because there is talent there and if we get this right the talent shouldn’t want to go to Wolves or Stoke or Villa.”

Academy scouting is a part-time role with scouts receiving benefits for every player who is taken on by the Academy.
