Cardiff Friendly Announced

Town to take on Cardiff City on 25th July

6 June 2017

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce that they will host Cardiff City in a Pre-Season friendly on Tuesday 25th July.

The game will take place at the Oteley Road Stadium at 7pm and is the fourth home preseason fixture to be announced.

Town are already due to host Aston Villa (15th July), Wolverhampton Wanderers (22nd July) and Burton Albion (29th July), whilst they also face AFC Telford United at the New Bucks Head on 26th July.

Neil Warnock’s Cardiff side are the fourth Championship side that Town will face in Pre-Season and Manager Paul Hurst is expecting another difficult game.

“It’s another Championship club, another home game, which will be the last of the home games for us realistically, and another really tough test”, said Paul.

“It’s about being tested. It might be a whole new unit out there working together as part of the team which we need to find answers from very quickly and you’re not going to get that against some really lowly opposition that don’t cause you any threats.

“In general they are all first team games, but I’m sure they will have some younger players there as well that on the day we might have a conversation after and they might say ‘that number 34 might be available on loan’.

“We’ve got to try and build some relationships with teams, that’s not a bad thing, but the prime objective is to test some of the players that we have got in the squad to get them as ready as possible for that first game of the season.”
