Golf Day raises over £4,000 for community fun
Shrewsbury Town in the Community hosted its annual Charity Golf Day on 16th June, raising almost £4000 towards continuing and improving our work around Shropshire.
Taking place at Shrewsbury Golf Club, 19 groups headed out on the 18 hole course in the perfect weather conditions, making for a great day out.
Teams included those from Nick Jones Wealth Planning, SJP Management, Shrewsbury Colleges Group and our very own Community team.
We were also joined by the Harry Johnson Trust in raising money for another great cause, as the day coincided with the trust’s ‘Harry Day’.
Budgen Motors were also involved on the day, providing us with a vehicle that was up for grabs for whoever could produce a hole in one on hole six.
There were some close efforts, but no one managed to finish the course with a brand new set of wheels!
There were plenty of other prizes up for grabs though, with a number of organisations kindly donating some prizes for our raffle at the end of the day.
They included a Sunday lunch for two at the Three Fishes Pub in Bayston Hill, a gallon of beer from Mike Hibbert at the Loggerheads Pub in Shrewsbury, a selection of wine from Nick Jones Wealth Planning and a goodie bag from George Anthony Barbers.
Nick Jones, also a trustee at the Community, was only too happy to have played a part in a successful day, and was pleased with how it all came together.
“The Community team have worked really well, Jade’s (Development Manager) run around like a headless chicken trying to organise everything but it’s all come together.
People are already talking about next year, which is a great sign that people have enjoyed it and want to do it again.
“What’s worked well is that the course is lovely, people have been very supportive and we’ve got 19 teams which is brilliant.
“The format that we played, Texas Scramble, means people have to talk as a team and work together around the course which brings people closer together, so they’ve all enjoyed that.
“The fundamental thing of being here and raising money for the charity is brilliant, because they do so much good work in the local community.
“Everybody’s had fun, and played a nice course amongst good people.”
