Daniel James Signs

Young Swansea City Winger joins on a season-long loan

30 June 2017

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce that Daniel James has become their sixth signing of the summer.

Daniel, 19, is a left winger and has joined on a season long loan deal from Swansea City.

James was a star performer in Swansea’s Under-23 side last season and he was recently called-up to Chris Coleman’s Wales squad for their World Cup qualifier with Serbia.

This is Daniel’s first loan-spell away from the Liberty Stadium and he is looking forward to joining Town.

“I’m really pleased to be here”, Daniel said.

“I’m looking forward to the season, particularly pre-season with lots of running, but I’m looking forward to it.

“I heard about it a while ago, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I knew anything properly and I got down here this morning, so it was quick.

“The training ground looks great. You’ve got everything you need and I think all the boys like it here, so it’s good.”

Daniel has played in the same Welsh age group sides as Tyler Roberts and he admitted that speaking to Tyler helped him make up his mind.

“I’ve heard great things about this club, said James.

“I’m good friends with Tyler Roberts who was here last year and he said it was a really friendly club which helped me to choose to come here.

“I know Tyler did very well last season and he got along with the fans well and all the boys, so I want to do as well, if not better, than him.

“I like to stay wide and run at defenders. I’m quite pacy as well. I scored a few goals last season so hopefully I can add to that as well.”

Daniel is now hoping to play as many games as possible as Town look to move up the League One table.

“This is my first loan spell, so I just want to settle in first, get to know the boys and hopefully play games and get them up the table”, said Daniel.

“All the boys aspire to be further up the table and hopefully I can help them do that.”
