Down Syndrome Football Festival a success for Town

19 June 2017

Tournament success for Town's DS team

Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Down Syndrome Football side enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the annual DSActive Festival, putting in a great performance and finishing as runners up in the competition.

Held at Portway Lifestyle Centre in Oldbury, the tournament was run by DSActive, who provide activities for people with down’s syndrome.

Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s Amy Edwards and Bryn McGilligan Oliver took a team of 21 along to the festival, and didn’t disappoint.

Representing Shrewsbury Town, the players did the club proud by beating the likes of Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and Moorside to finish second in their group, and bring some silverware back to Shrewsbury.

Health and Inclusion Officer Amy Edwards was very proud of the team’s efforts, and said: “The team played fantastic together and it was a really enjoyable day with lots of smiles, goals and some amazing football.

“Myself and Bryn were very proud to be involved as coaches for Shrewsbury Town in the Community on the day.”

Our DS Football team take part in sessions at the Shrewsbury Sports Village every Monday night, 5pm-6pm. The session is for all ages and abilities, so why not get involved? Get in touch with us at community@shrewsburytown.co.uk and find out what we have to offer.
