Bolton game will see the launch of Town FanZoneShrewsbury Town are set to open a new Fanzone ahead of Saturday’s game with Bolton Wanderers.
The Fanzone will be open from one o’clock at the back of the Salop Leisure Stand and will include a live music stage, mini beer festival and food. The Bolton game will see Goodbye Ohio taking the stage from 1:45pm.
Funding for the new Fanzone has come through Shrewsbury Town in the Community and Head of Community Jamie Edwards is excited about its potential.
“We’ve received £18,962 from the Premier League and the Football Foundation to engage with the fans”, Jamie told ShrewsWeb.
“The majority of the funding is going towards the stage and the PA system that we need for the Fanzone, and the crowd control we need with vehicles around that area.
“We have four home games between now and the end of the season which we will trial what we want, so we are hoping to get feedback from the fans who use it.
“It’s not going to be the finished article straight away, but it’s something that we think will grow and grow.”
Many clubs around the country have set up successful Fanzones in recent seasons and Jamie is hopeful that Shrewsbury Town supporters will get behind the idea.
“It’s a starting point where we can set something up, see how it runs and see how it gets supported”, said Edwards.
“We need to get as much support into the Fanzone for the next four games as we can, starting with Saturday, to show its worth to potential sponsors.
“We’ve already got ideas from the community side in terms of doing kids activities towards the end of the season when we can guarantee the weather will be a little bit better.
“The bands will all be local as well and we can look at the food and catering that supporters want and see if we can provide that.”
The FanZone will be in operation for the Bolton Wanderers, Rochdale, Walsall and Southend United game.
