Town v AFC Telford

14 March 2017

Preview of tonight's SSC final at the Greenhous Meadow

This week we have an extra bonus game in the form of the Shropshire Senior Cup final at Greenhous Meadow which is placed neatly between two away games in League One. Our opposition is, as is usual, AFC Telford who are currently in 16th position in the conference North.

Familiar faces
Ex-Shrewsbury Town striker Dave Hibbert has been with Telford since June 2015. He played 91 times for us between 2007 and 2010 and scored 30 times including three in the season opening games he played for us.
Young Town goalkeeping prospect Callum Burton is currently on loan with Telford s first team. Callum has represented England at under 16, 17 and 18 level and has already made appearances for Nuneaton, Market Drayton, Workington and Southport.

Lee Hughes is a prolific goalscorer with a long career in the game behind him and too many clubs to mention. He's already off the mark for Telford which isn't surprising as he's done that everywhere, including at the top level for West Bromwich Albion. The controversial front man Joined Telford last month from Worcester City where he had been since 2015.

Form
In their last five games Telford have won twice and lost three times. Both of those wins were at home where they've been moderately successful this season with seven wins, four draws and six defeats. Their away form is less impressive with just one game won on their travels this season and that was back in October at Altrincham. Since the turn of the year Telford have lost four and drawn one away from home.

Squad News
Telford: Lee Hughes and Luke Higham are likely to miss out because of a groin and an ankle injury respectively.

Town: We are likely to see a mix of first team and youth players.

Prediction
Obviously I'm going to go for the Town win, we've been great at home recently and Telford have had no luck on the road but this is the shortest distanced away game they'll play all season. It should also be easy to motivate the Telford squad against a team placed three divisions above them. We'll need some cool heads to keep them at bay but I fancy us to do that and win.

Shrewsbury Town 3-1 A.F.C. Telford
