Youngsters extend loan deals

Ethan Jones and Callum Grogan to stay with respective clubs

Two of Shrewsbury Town’s young professionals have extended their loan deals with their respective clubs.

Ethan Jones will remain with Stourbridge for a further month, whilst Callum Grogan stays at Skelmersdale United.

Manager Paul Hurst believes it is important that they both continue to get games at this stage in their careers.

“We want to keep them playing games”, Paul told ShrewsWeb.

“I think things with the first team have gone well in general and fitness wise we are okay, so rather than bring them back and have them sat in the stands not getting game time, we decided to extend.

“Ethan is at a club that are at the top end of the league looking to cement a play-off place. He’s played the majority of minutes since he’s been there and played in a few positions.

“That will help him develop and understand different roles within the team, as well as getting much needed minutes and I’m sure he will be looking to add to the goal he got last weekend.”

Callum Grogan’s Skelmersdale side are struggling at the bottom of the Evo-Stick Northern Premier Division, but Paul believes it will be a good experience for Callum to be involved in a relegation battle.

“If you’re a striker and you go to a team that is really struggling and you are under pressure for large parts of the game that can make it an unpleasant experience”, continued Paul.

“As a defender, while you might concede a few goals, you want to be tested. They have got a new manager that is trying to turn things round and they had a good win the other night, keeping a clean sheet, but that will be a good test.

“In fairness to Callum I spoke to him about perhaps coming back and looking at one or two other options, but at the minute he just wants to play games and that is credit to him and the type of lad he is.

“I’ve said before that I have been impressed with his attitude since I arrived. Skelmersdale were delighted to have kept him and hopefully he can keep on playing and doing well.”
