Wolves and Burton Albion friendlies set for July
Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce two more of their preseason fixtures ahead of the 2017/18 season.
Town will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at home on the 22nd July and will follow that up seven days later against Burton Albion (29th July).
Both matches will kick-off at 3pm and have been added to Town’s existing home preseason friendly with Aston Villa on the 15th July.
All three sides will play in the Sky Bet Championship next season and Town boss Paul Hurst is expecting three difficult games.
“We might not get a win preseason”, joked Paul.
“But, I think in my experience as a player I wanted to play in good games and these certainly tick that box. As a manager I want the players to be tested.
“Joking aside, it’s not about results. You might get a win and think ‘we’re not bad’, but I’ve been involved in preseason where we’ve been unbeaten all preseason and then the first game we drew.
“I’ve also been involved in preseasons where we were useless and we went away and won 6-1 in the first game, but really it is about fitness.
“There will be other things that we look at like a different system or nailing down a certain system that I want us to play, but it is mainly to try and get up to speed for that first game.
“With these being Championship sides that we are coming up against, maybe we will get a few fans in and we know that we are going to be tested.
“There’s no value playing a non-league team and maybe winning 15-0, you don’t learn anything from that.
“So, I’m delighted with the games we’ve got and I’m sure the players will look at it and think more positively than going to some teams and worrying about what the pitch is like and things like that.”
Meanwhile, Town’s game against Solihull Moors, which was set to take place on the 11th July, has been cancelled.
Solihull Moors are also hosts of Birmingham City Ladies FC and with their season not ending until mid-June, the pitch will not be ready after the summer remedial work.
