Two of Shrewsbury Town’s Academy Goalkeepers have enjoyed success on the international scene in the last few months.

Jack Atkinson has represented Wales Schoolboys, whilst Luke Burton represented Wales Under-16s.

Jack Atkinson was a regular feature in Town’s Under-18s this season, despite only being an Under-16, whilst Under-15 Luke Burton also played for the Youth Team.

Atkinson was called up to the Schoolboys side back in February and played for 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against England Independent Schools Under-18s and a further 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat to Republic of Ireland Schoolboys.

Jack has since gone onto feature in a training camp held at Swansea City Academy and played for 45 minutes in a 3-2 defeat against Swansea City Under-18s.

Meanwhile, Luke Burton has been involved in an Under-16 UEFA Development Tournament in Cyprus. Burton didn’t play any part in Wales’ first two games in the tournament, but he proved the hero in their third and final game, saving three penalties out of four in a penalty shootout after Wales had drawn 1-1 with San Marino.

Both players have received international caps for their appearances and it is hoped that their experiences will prove invaluable towards their future development.
