RAF Base hosts Shrews Soccer Schools

Military personnel at RAF Shawbury have joined forces with the Shrewsbury Town in the Community team to provide a 2 day football training camp for youngsters from the Station and local area.

The team from the Shrews Community teams held 2 one-day football training camps at the unit on the 20th and 21st April on the Stations Astroturf pitch. The camps involved training youngsters in basic football skills in a fun filled couple of days. The scheme provided training to 25 youngsters from RAF Shawbury and also the surrounding area and was hugely successful.

The training was delivered under the leadership of Alex Jones from Shrewsbury Town, assisted by Bryn Mcgilligan Oliver and Olly Morris. Assisting the Shrewsbury Town Coaches was Lance Corporal Lee Doyle from the unit. Lee is a Level 2 FA Coach and works at RAF Shawbury with the Military Provost Guard Service. He said: “The event was a huge success and outlined the continuing excellent engagement the unit has with Shrewsbury Town. The youngsters had a fantastic time. We look forward to holding further events in the future.”
