Port Vale Away In CheckaTrade

10 November 2017

Town travel to Vale Park in the second round

Town will travel to Port Vale in Round 2 of the CheckaTrade Trophy following the draw this evening.

Town came second in the group after victories away to Coventry City, home to WBA U21s and a disappointing home defeat to Walsall.  The defeat meant that Walsall won the group and got the home draw, whilst Town now have to travel to Vale Park.

It’s the shortest trip Town could have got in the second round and there have been some good encounters with Vale over recent years.

The ties are scheduled to be played the week commencing 4th December 2018.

Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst is hoping his side can back from the Walsall game and do well in the competition.

“We want to try and do well in the competition”, said Paul.

“To be drawn away to Port Vale adds a little bit of extra spice to the game with it being a local derby.

“We’ve made it more difficult for ourselves now by having to go away, but they weren’t going to be easy games even if we had been at home.

“I’ve said all along that if you can win the next one and maybe the one after that then you do start to see the bigger picture and the prize that comes at the end of it.

“We will be trying our best to get through, but it’s going to be a difficult tie especially as they have picked up since Neil Aspin has gone in.”
