Chris Skitt on Junior Brown

Skitty deems Brown's operation a success

Shrewsbury Town Physio Chris Skitt is pleased with how Junior Brown’s knee operation has gone.

Brown went under the knife last week and the operation has been deemed a success.

Skitt is pleased that Brown has come through it unscathed and is now looking forward to working with the full-back during his rehab.

“It all went according to plan”, Chris told ShrewsWeb.

“Thankfully, it was exactly what we thought and there’s nothing more sinister in there. He’s been in today and the rehab starts now.

“It’s obviously quite a significant surgery, so he would have been under general anaesthetic and pumped full of chemicals, so he will have been a little bit groggy.

“Pain-wise, he wouldn’t have been horrendous immediately, but over the following 24-hours the pain does get a little bit worse, so he will be given quite a bit of pain relief to get him through that initial stage and then we can crack on.”

With the operation now out of the way, the hard work starts straight away for Junior and Chris has plans to get him working in the gym as soon as possible.

“We will be looking to get the swelling out of the knee and the inflammation that’s been caused from the operation”, Skitt said.

“We will be looking to reduce the soreness that he’s got from the operation and the brutality that’s involved with that, and we will just be looking to get him going with the movement and the range of motion that he’s got.

“There’s certain things that we can’t do because the graft of the ACL that we’ve put in is too immature and it wouldn’t take the strength that is needed, so a lot of it is slow and steady.

“That being said, there are things that we can push him with and he will be lifting weights quite significantly to try and get his bulk and his muscle strength back, and he will be on the bike and the rowing machine as quickly as he can be.”

The Town Physio has been particularly impressed by Junior’s mental attitude since suffering the injury and believes that attitude can only be helpful in his recovery.

“I’ve been massively impressed, but not surprised”, Chris said.

“Having got to know Junior for a number of years now he’s a fighter, he’s a winner, he’s someone that’s got an open mind-set, which is always really helpful, and believe it or not there is a positive person in there, although he might not always show it.

“He’s been looking himself a methods and techniques that can speed things up, he’s been looking at supplements he can take, so it’s nice and refreshing that someone is coming to me asking things and nine times out of ten someone with that mentality will do well.”
