Aldershot In The FA Cup

16 October 2017

Town to play Aldershot Town in The Emirates FA Cup

The draw for the First Round of The Emirates FA Cup has taken place and Town have been drawn at home to Vanarame Conference side Aldershot Town.

Town and Aldershot have played out some good games with the Conference Play-off final being the biggest in recent times.  Older Town fans will also remember the FA Cup games during the 1978/79 season that saw Town held to a draw at Aldershot before winning the replay at Gay Meadow 3-1.

The game will be played over the weekend of 4th November at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Paul Hurst is looking forward to the game, last season saw him in charge for Town’s FA Cup games against Barnet and Fleetwood Town and he’s hoping for a good run in the FA Cup this term.

“When the draw takes place you hope to get a home draw and it’s pleasing that has happened”, said Paul.

“Aldershot will prove a tough test though after reaching the play-offs last season and have started this campaign well just lying outside those play-off spots.

“Getting a league club sometimes can be viewed as a better draw than getting one of the non-league sides as you tend to know more about them, the players and the way they set-up but we already know a bit about them and will certainly know more by the time we play them.

“The FA Cup has taken a lot of criticism but for me it is still a fantastic competition and one that we want to try and do well in.

“You have to take it one game at a time but everyone’s aim at this stage of the competition is to get to the third round and then the magic of the cup can really kick in, and that’s what we will be striving for.”
