Stefan Payne Pre Plymouth Argyle

Topscorer looks ahead to facing Plymouth

Shrewsbury Town’s leading scorer Stefan Payne is looking for Town to continue their unbeaten record against Plymouth Argyle.

Town are unbeaten in 12 league games this season, picking up 30 points in the process.

Stefan is now looking to make that 13 on Saturday when they face bottom of the table Plymouth.

“I think we’ve got to go into the game with the same work ethic, the same determination and treat it like a Wigan or Blackburn”, Payne told ShrewsWeb.

“No team in this league can be underestimated. We’ve got to take each game as it comes, work hard and play every game as if we are playing second in the league.

“We don’t want any excuses. Everyone has to make the journeys in this league, so we can’t make any excuses. We’ve just got to go there, get the job done and get the three points.”

Payne has enjoyed a perfect start to the season, scoring seven goals in all competitions and he admits he is enjoying himself.

“It feels great”, admitted Stefan.

“As a striker you always want to be top goalscorer. It’s nice to contribute to the team, contribute to winning and for myself personally.

“You set yourself a target in your head and you keep going. For me personally it’s 10 until January and then another 10 before the end of the season, but if you can score more than that then so be it.

“I’ve been top scorer at other clubs, but it’s great here because we are winning, I’m top scorer and the attitude around the camps great.”
