Zak Jules Injury Update

2 October 2017

Jules set for spell on the sidelines

Shrewsbury Town defender Zak Jules is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury.

Zak suffered the injury whilst playing for Chesterfield against Yeovil Town last Tuesday.

Jules was stretched off just seven minutes into the game and according to Town Physio Chris Skitt, the news isn’t good.

“Zak’s got quite a significant tear to his hamstring”, Skitt told ShrewsWeb.

“Up to 90% of his hamstring has actually been torn, so I’m devastated for Zak but we will obviously do our best to get him back going and get him back in the swiftest time possible.”

Surgery is now planned in the near future and this will be followed by a lengthy recovery process.

“The likelihood is that he will have to have some surgical intervention,” admitted Chris.

“That will be planned for early next week and then it’s a matter of getting him in and slowly progressing him, but it will be a matter of months rather than weeks with Zak.

“We will try and get him in the best timescale possible, but also get him back in the best shape we possibly can.

“Hamstrings can be a bit temperamental, so we will take our time with him, give him a bit of down time after the operation and we will build him back up steadily and get him going.”

Zak, who was meant to be on loan at Chesterfield until January, is now likely to return to Town for his recovery period.

“It’s more than likely”, Skitt said on the prospect of Zak returning.

“The injury will go past the time that the loan period is, so we will discuss with Chesterfield as to the immediate treatment, but the chances are that he will probably come back with us sooner or later.”
