Godfrey looks ahead to Scunthorpe visit

Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ben Godfrey admits that he is enjoying life in Shropshire.

The Norwich City loanee has been a vital part of the Town midfield since joining in August, helping Town to the top of League One.

Godfrey was rested for Tuesday night’s game against Doncaster, but he is now fit and raring to go for Scunthorpe.

“Well done to the staff for seeing that I was tired”, Ben told the Press.

“If they say that it’s time to ref then that is fair enough. They are really professional in what they do and it’s not a problem when you’ve got a squad like ours because you can put people in whenever you want and you know they will perform, but I feel recharged and ready to go.

“I was buzzing for the boys. It was a massive three points. You see a lot of Tuesday night games being draws, but we’ve got that physical side where we can keep growing and grind out those results and those two points are vital.”

Ben’s been pleased with the start to the season, but is taking each game as it comes - starting with Saturday.

“It’s always in your mind that you can achieve something special”, admitted Godfrey.

“I’ve said from day one that the squad have the ability to do that, but each and every game is really hard. It’s a tough division, so we take each game as it comes and hopefully take three points against Scunthorpe and see where we go from there.

“I expect a tough game physically. We are going to have to do both sides of the game, which we are capable of doing. They’ve got a tough midfield, but I believe that if we play as well as we can and work as hard as we can then why can’t we take the points?”

He now wants the fans to get behind the team once more and make the difference.

“They are the 12th man”, Ben continued.

“Hopefully, the fans realise what a difference they make. When they get behind you it’s unbelievable. They give you that second wind and that determination to get to that ball and make that tackle.

“It helps so much, so hopefully they can come down again and create the same atmosphere as last weekend.”
