Caldwell: It was great to see the place rocking

CEO urges fans to return for Scunthorpe test

Shrewsbury Town would love to see you back at the Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend.

Over 8,000 fans packed into the stadium for the visit of Blackburn Rovers last weekend, but with Town extending their lead at the top of League One to four points in midweek, the Club would love to see those supporters return against Scunthorpe.

Town played out an entertaining 1-1 draw against Blackburn last Saturday and CEO Brian Caldwell was delighted with the occasion.

“It was absolutely fantastic”, Brian told ShrewsWeb.

“The supporters really got behind the team, it was a good atmosphere and I hope everyone enjoyed it.

“My worry before the game was if we got an 8,000 plus crowd, then in the past we haven’t played that well, but I thought on Saturday we did play well.

“It shows how far we’ve come in the last year or so that we’ve just drawn with Blackburn Rovers and they’ve scored a late equaliser and we are actually disappointed not to win the game.

“It was great to see the place rocking, especially when we scored the goal, and there was a fantastic atmosphere around the place, so hopefully they can all come back.”

This Saturday’s game pits first against fifth in League One and Brian is hopeful fans will want to return to the Meadow for what promises to be another exciting game.

“Blackburn Rovers was obviously an attraction and they brought 1600 of their own supporters, but we had over 6600 of our own fans”, said Caldwell.

“Hopefully, we can get most of those back. I think the weather plays a part as well and I looked at the forecast for the weekend and it’s set to be dry and sunny, so that’s a positive.

“Hopefully, people enjoyed themselves last Saturday. The team has improved dramatically and hopefully we’ve tempted some of those people back who haven’t been in a little while and they enjoyed it.

“We are definitely playing attractive football, which is what people want to see and now that the golf season’s slowing down, cricket as well, and the schools are back, hopefully the numbers will continue to rise.”
