Harry talks about completing his foundation degree with Shrewsbury Town in the Community
Shrewsbury Town in the Community recently caught up with foundation degree student Harry Warren, to find out about life at Shrewsbury Town.
Harry, 18, has been part of our foundation degree set up for the last two years, and now looks ahead to taking on his third year and graduating with a BSc level degree.
A major part of his final year will be his Applied Professional Project, where he will help Girls and Women’s Officer Peter Wilson with our Regional Talent Centre.
Fresh from his introductory week down in South Wales, Harry is ready for the challenge of overseeing the girl’s football setup and aiding their development.
His new appointment as RTC Club Manager will see him undertake administration work alongside coaching duties, working with the technical director with the aim of getting players onto the England Talent Pathway, and to a standard where they could one day represent Shrewsbury Town Ladies.
Harry is grateful for the opportunity Shrewsbury Town have given him, and believes the practical side of the course sets it apart from the rest.
“I remember being on the Futsal scholarship that the club originally had, five years ago now,” he said.
“From then I can really say that the foundation degree has built me up in terms of support at the club and a greater understanding of the working environment.
“These three years have not only been a success with academic work but has also given me a lease of life to understand the working environment.
“Before this course I was working at a fast food restaurant and now I’m working as a full time football coach which is what my dream is to do so I’m hoping to push on and go as far as I can in the football industry.”
With Harry also being a Shrewsbury Town fan, he sets his sights on gaining further experience in coaching before what he hopes would be a dream job at his home town club.
“How many people can say that they work in football for the football club they support, and at the same time get paid whilst earning a degree?
“I’m very lucky and very fortunate, so I’m very thankful to Jamie Edwards and Jade Hibbert for allowing me to come onto the degree.
“Hopefully I can prove them right for giving me the opportunity.
I’m hoping I will be able to work towards getting my UEFA B Licence, and then there’s a full time role at the club that I can go for.
“My dream is to work at Shrewsbury Town full time, so hopefully come July time there may be an opportunity for me to do that.”
