England take on Brazil at the Montgomery Waters Meadow
Shrewsbury will play host as England’s U17 World Cup preparations begin against Brazil next month.
Steve Cooper’s side, technically classed as this season’s U18s and who travel to India for the World Cup in October, will face the South Americans at Montgomery Waters Meadow on Friday 1 September, kick-off 7pm.
The Young Lions reached the final of the U17 European Championships in Croatia this summer, cruelly losing out on penalties to Spain after leading 2-1 with seconds to spare.
The Shropshire venue hosted an U21 European Championship qualifier against San Marino back in 2013 as well as a senior women’s World Cup qualifier the following year.
Town have hosted England sides a number of times over the last 10 years and it is a game CEO Brian Caldwell is looking forward to.
“It is a great honour to once again be asked by the FA to host an England game”, said Brian.
“Over the summer there has been success for the U20s in the World Cup as well as the other age groups at the their tournaments.
“The Friday evening fixture should allow lots of families to come and see some future England stars in action.
“With the opposition being Brazil I would expect it to be a great game for everyone to enjoy.”
