Godfrey looks ahead to Wembley final

Town's Checkatrade trophy final game is finally upon the team as they travel to Wembley to face Sky Bet League Two’s Lincoln City on Sunday.

Ben Godfrey has been an integral part of the Shrewsbury midfield this season and is relishing the chance to add some silverwear to an already promising season, he said: “We’re all really looking forward to it, to win a game at Wembley is a massive achievement and to pick up some silverware to top off what has been a really good season.

“The lads are ready and raring to go, I think the fans are looking forward to it as well. The league campaign has been really good, some would say over achieving but we’re far from finished.

“It’s nice to have won our last game and enjoy this week and get ready for a trip to the national stadium and as I said, hopefully pick up some silverware.”

Godfrey is pleased with his loan move to Shrewsbury and is also pleased at how the season has gone for Town, adding a trophy to that would only boost that further. Godfrey said: “You go out on loan and you aren’t sure what’s going to happen really.

“It’s been a good opportunity for me to pick up some games, but to do it in this fashion, fighting for promotion to the championship and to play at Wembley is unbelievable.

“I wouldn’t have dreamt it would go like this at all really. It’s been an amazing experience and I have learnt endless amounts.”

Godfrey is looking forward to his first trip to Wembley, but also understands the importance of the game, he said: “Its my first time playing at Wembley, the same as some of the other lads as well, I’m going to soak it up, enjoy it and hopefully get the win.

“As much pressure as there is to win the game and pick up the silverware for Shrewsbury, we have got to enjoy it, some players never get the opportunity to play there, so it could be my first and last so its important you enjoy it as well as getting the job done.

“We will be ready and raring so I back us all day to go and get the win, hopefully if we do what do, we will. Both sides confidence is going to be up there, so it’s going to be a good game, not easy by any means.

“We are going to enjoy it and if we work hard, as we always do, hopefully our ability will get us the win.”
