CEO urges fans to get behind the team
Shrewsbury Town CEO Brian Caldwell is looking forward to the club’s big day out at Wembley on Sunday.
Town take on Lincoln City in the Checkatrade Trophy Final and Brian is hopeful that the club can enjoy their first success at the national stadium.
“It’s going to be a great occasion”, said Caldwell.
“We’ve tried not to think about it too much over the last few weeks, especially when the players are around, but the staff at the club have been working in the background to make sure that arrangements are in place, that we’ve not forgotten anything and that we’ve dealt with it properly.
“I think we are all looking forward to a great day out at Wembley and let’s hope it’s a lucky one this time. It’s my first trip with Shrewsbury to Wembley, so hopefully it will be successful.”
Shrewsbury Town’s ticket sales are nearing the 12,000 mark and whilst they will be outnumbered by Lincoln fans Caldwell is certain they will get behind the team.
“We just want as many people locally to come and support the team because I think they deserve it”, said Brian.
“The performances they’ve put in at home and away this season have been fantastic, and the backing that we’ve had has really helped them.
“I’m not sure supporters sometimes realise how important that twelfth man is and with winning so many games 1-0, it has been really important to help them hang on at the end to get the three points.
“The Shrewsbury fans will always get behind the team. They’ve shown that every game this season. They are very patient with the team as well and don’t get on at the players a lot, so despite Lincoln having an advantage in numbers we are sure that the supporters will give us 100% backing on the day.”
It's not too late for fans to travel down to Wembley because tickets will be available from the national stadium on the day of the game.
