Henderson excited by Checkatrade Trophy Final
Shrewsbury Town Goalkeeper Dean Henderson is looking forward to making his first Wembley appearance in Sunday’s Checkatrade Trophy Final against Lincoln City.
The England Under-21 International has trained at the National Stadium, but is yet to feature there and he is hopeful this is the first of many appearances at Wembley.
“It’s going to be an excellent experience to play at Wembley, but only if you win”, said Henderson.
“I’ve been there a lot and warmed up there a few times, but it’s my first time to hopefully start at Wembley.
“It’s a great experience for myself, at my age and in my first year of professional football. It’s an opportunity to win silverware, so I’m really excited.
“It’s probably the best stadium in the world for football in my eyes. It’s the home of football and somewhere that I want to play for many years to come, so hopefully it’s the first taste of many for me and it can be a good one.”
However, Henderson doesn’t just want the experience of playing at Wembley, he also wants to bring some silverware back to Shropshire and is confident that the team can do just that.
“You don’t want to go there and be disappointed, you want to go there and go all the way”, said Dean.
“We haven’t come this far to go and get beat, so we want to go there, make it really tough for them and make it a really good day for all the fans travelling down because it’s a long way to go.
“The lads have worked hard together all season, worked hard on the training pitch and we deserve to go out there and win something together that we can talk about for years to come.
“I’m confident, as always, and believe we can do it if we turn up in the right frame of mind and take the game to them and see what they’ve got. Hopefully, we can make it a really special day.”
