Loan Update

A look at how our players got on away from the club this weekend

All eyes were on Wembley this weekend as far as Shrewsbury Town was concerned, but across the UK our players were continuing their loan spells away from the club.

In Wales, it was disappointment for Ryan Sears as Newtown failed to make it to the final of the Welsh Cup. The Robins didn’t really get going until the final 20 minutes, but by that time it was too late as they were already two-nil down thanks to a brace from Aberystwyth Town defender Declan Walker. Newtown did rally late on and Nick Rushton’s penalty set-up a frantic final few minutes but it proved to be a mere consolation and Aberystwyth progressed to the final, where they will face Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Chris Gallagher’s Stoubridge side came away with a point from their game against Hednesford Town on Saturday. The Glassboys looked set to take all three points when Luke Benbow headed home with half-an-hour remaining, but they were made to pay for missed chances as Danny Glover struck in the 92nd minute to rescue a point for Hednesford. Stourbridge are back in action tonight against Altringham.

Finally, it was disappointment for Town’s other loan players in action this weekend as George Hughes and AJ Leitch Smith both came out on the losing side. Hughes started Clitheroe’s game against Ramsbottom, but they were beaten 1-0 with a performance that was described as lacklustre by onlookers. Leitch-Smith was only used as a 75th minute substitute, but he could do nothing to change Dundee’s fortunes as they were beaten 4-0 by Rangers.

John McAtee and Zak Jules weren’t involved for AFC Telford United and Port Vale respectively.
