Beckles excited by Wembley experience
Defender Omar Beckles is another one of the Shrewsbury squad preparing for a Wembley trip for the first time. Town face Lincoln City in the Checkatrade Trophy final on Sunday.
Beckles is relishing the chance to play at the national stadium, he said: “Definitely looking forward to it, first time going to Wembley and playing there.
“It’s an occasion that every player looks forward too, playing on the biggest stage so yeah, I’m looking forward to it.
“We have worked hard, from start to finish and we are reaping the rewards, so it’s nothing short of what we expect and we’re hoping to build on that and come away as winners.
“It’s something you have got to embrace, take in the moment. In the hotel, in the stadium and the whole atmosphere. It might be a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of us so we need to embrace every single moment.
“We need to really embrace the moment like I said, and make the most of it and make sure we have good memories at the end of it, not just say ‘oh we were there’ but to say we were there and we won.”
Although Beckles is looking to enjoy the occasion, he understands his side need to go out and try to win, he said: “We want to go there, enjoy it and we will go there and give our best and see where it takes us.
“Whole heartedly we are confident, we have played against some big teams this season, played against some big players. The consistency we have had, we believe we can beat whomever on our day.
“As long as we turn up and give our best, I’m sure we will come away with a result. Very few players get to experience the type of season we have had. All the hard work we have put in, we have got to make sure we finish it off.”
