Work to commence on stadium steelwork
Shrewsbury Town CEO Brian Caldwell has confirmed that painting on the exterior metalwork at the Montgomery Waters Meadow is scheduled begin next week.
The club had been in a long term dispute with the stadium builders and their sub contractors over issues with paint on some areas of the metalwork around the stadium and on legal advice they had been told not to touch it.
“I know a lot of people aren’t aware, but there had been an ongoing issue with the steelwork paint since the stadium was built”
“In the last couple of years we have been in discussion with Hall Construction and their paintwork subcontractor. We haven’t wanted to do anything to the steelwork for fear of repercussions, so we have left it.
“Over the last three months we’ve been having an increasing number of discussions with the other parties and we reached a compromise just before Christmas, so hopefully from next week they will be here for 30 to 40 weeks cleaning and repairing all the areas of paintwork which have been affected.
“It’s been a difficult one because a lot of people have said to me ‘Look at the state of the steel’, but it’s one that we haven’t wanted to touch in case of any fall back on the warranties.”
