Askey on Nolan and Nsiala

Gaffer gives his take on Nolan and Nsiala's transfer requests

Shrewsbury Town defender Toto Nsiala and midfielder Jon Nolan have been subject a transfer bid from an un-named Championship Club.

John Askey has confirmed the pair will not be training with the squad whilst the players have their futures confirmed.

John gave his thoughts on the matter and confirms he has a contingency plan in place should the pair depart Shrewsbury Town.

“Obviously it’s disappointing from our point of view,” said Askey. “When you get to this stage of the pre-season it’s not news you want to hear.

“I’m afraid that’s football these days so we have just to get on and the most important thing for me is looking after Shrewsbury Town and getting players who want to play for the Football Club.

“When you have players who have done well then these sort of things tend to happen. It’s the timing more than anything that you can do without.”

Despite the bid coming so late in the transfer window Askey feels the Club are well equipped to deal with the matter.

“We have got to deal with it,” Askey said. “We have to accept that it goes on. We have got to have irons in the fire ready for if anybody leaves and that’s something I’ve been thinking about.

“Until a Football Club comes in for them they are your players and when it gets so late in the day you expect them to be here as Shrewsbury Town players.

“You have to move on quickly as a manager. Since we had the news we have been working really hard to do something.

“At the moment they are still Shrewsbury Town players so you never know what could happen. The Football Club doesn’t really want to sell them and we are in a position where we don’t have to sell them.”
