Shrewsbury Town enter Central League Cup 2018/19

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce that they will be taking part in this season’s Central League Cup.

The competition will be an opportunity for squad players and some of the club’s younger players to get some game time in a development competition.

Town have been drawn in the South Central Group alongside fellow Sky Bet League One sides Bristol Rovers, Burton Albion and Walsall.

The winner of each group will progress through to a regionalised Semi Final (North v North Central and South v South Central) with the winners of both meeting in the national final.

ShrewsWeb caught up with John Askey to get his thought's on entering the compeititon.

"I think it's important that the young lads play against men because then we've got a better idea of what they are about", said John.

"They need a little bit of help, it's no use just putting a whole load of the youth team in there, but we've got a squad at the moment where hopefully, if we don't have a lot of injuries, it will give lads the chance to have a game, but I think it's more important for the youth team players to see what they can do.

"There's nothing like playing. You can train and train, but it's games that you need and no matter what level it is you should be looking to improve and the youth team players should be looking to impress"
