Brian Caldwell reacts to the transfer requests from Nolan and Nsiala

Shrewsbury Town CEO Brian Caldwell has spoken to ShrewsWeb about the news that broke yesterday of Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala’s transfer requests.

The pair handed in transfer requests after Shrewsbury Town received an offer from an unnamed Championship club.

Brian spoke to the club’s media channels to explain what has been going on behind the scenes over the last 48-hours.

“I think it’s been quite well documented now that we had an offer by text on Tuesday from a Championship club for the two of them”, said Caldwell.

“I went back to them at the time and their valuation didn’t reach what I would term as our valuation, which was the valuation that we had discussed even with Paul (Hurst) when he was here.

“At the end of the day we don’t want to sell them and we don’t need the money, but with the players handing in transfer requests in the last 24-hours it’s clear that they don’t want to be here.

“We only want to have players here that can focus on the game on Saturday and want to play for Shrewsbury Town.”

This all comes just two days before the season opener against Bradford City and Caldwell is unhappy with how the manner of the approach.

“Timings not great at all”, admitted Brian.

“It’s been muted and speculated all through the closed season, and we’ve always been aware that potentially something could happen, but for it to happen in the manner it has is obviously disappointing.

“We just have to move on. I will be quite strong in what our valuation of the player is because we don’t need to sell them and we don’t want to sell them, so we will carry on now with a team that want to play for Shrewsbury Town this Saturday against Bradford.

“The thing for John (Askey) now is to concentrate on the players we have here. Obviously we’re still trying to add to the group, which we have been going for the last few weeks, and we will continue to do that and try and add to the group before the transfer window shuts next week.”
