John Askey on Luke Waterfall

Gaffer reacts to the signing of Luke Waterfall from Lincoln City

Shrewsbury Town boss John Askey is delighted to welcome Luke Waterfall to the Club.

The six foot two defender joins Town on a three-year deal, joining from Lincoln City for an undisclosed fee.

Town boss John Askey is pleased to link up with his former loanee who played under him at Macclesfield Town.

“I’m very pleased,” John said. “Luke is a player that I know well. I know exactly what I’m getting.

“He’s done really well with Lincoln and he’s been a big part of why they have done so well, coming into league football and then doing so well in the FA Cup.

“He’s show that whatever the opposition, he’s more than capable. He’s a good organiser and he gets people around him playing as well.

“I think he will be a good addition to what we have got, exactly what we need and I’m sure Luke is looking forward to playing for Shrewsbury.”

John feels time timing is right for Waterfall to step up a league due to his age and experience.

“As a defender it’s a good age,” the Town boss said. “He’s got plenty left in him. He’s come up through the leagues, that experience will stand him in good stead.

“He’s no nonsense, he will head it and kick it but he can play, he’s not just all about that.

“When you need somebody to roll their sleeves up Luke will do that and he will get people around him doing that as well.

“I think in any team you need that and with what has gone on we needed to get another centre half so I am really pleased to get him and I know what I am getting.

“It is important that we get the right sort of player in who’s going to be a good addition around the place and in Luke we have got that. He’s straight talking and what we all need.”

Luke will be available to Askey right away and will join up with the squad tomorrow.
