John Askey Post Doncaster Rovers

21 August 2018

Gaffer reflects on Town's 0-0 draw with Doncaster.

John Askey’s men left the Keepmoat Stadium with a well-earned point on the road.

Rovers provided a good test for Town and either team could have left with all three points.

Askey was pleased with the performance and feels it wont be too long before Town get the deserved win.

“I thought longer the game went on, the better we got,” Askey said. “The first 20 minutes we had to weather the storm a little bit.

“Doncaster didn’t really create many chances and we had better chances in the game.

“Again, I cant ask any more of the players, I thought they gave everything tonight and we were unlucky not to come away with the three points.

“This is a difficult place to come and they’re probably the best team we have played so far this season.

“I thought once we worked out how to close them down and not chase the ball too much, we limited very few chances.

“It’s going to take time and it is gradually coming and hopefully, we can get the three points when we start hitting the net.

John also felt his side deserved a penalty when Shaun Whalley was brought down inside the box.

“I saw it like everybody else,” said Askey. “It was a blatant penalty, we wont see a more blatant penalty. Why he hasn’t given it, I don’t know.

“When he re-watches it, I’m sure he will realise what a big mistake it was.”

Town are on the road again Saturday, as Askey's men take on Luton Town away at Kenilworth Road.
