Gaffer looks ahead to Saturday's game against Bristol Rovers

Shrewsbury Town welcome Bristol Rovers to the Montgomery Waters Meadow this Saturday afternoon.

The Town boss, John Askey, and his side will be looking to gain the clubs first three points of the season - with a victory over the Pirates.

Askey is hoping the positive result against Manchester City’s Under 21 squad will spur his team onto another good result.

“There is a good atmosphere amongst the players,” Askey told Shrewsweb. “I think when you watch them play - you can see they are playing with confidence.

“There isn’t anybody who really is playing poorly. There are one or two decisions that aren’t being made at the right time, but overall the majority of the team are playing well.

“I thought we approached the last game well and some of them came out with flying colours.

“I think we all saw that Barnett did particularly well, being a similar age to the City players, so that was a big plus.”

Askey is expecting a tough game from the visitors, who are also looking to improve on their early season form.

“All games are tough,” Askey said. “Bristol Rovers haven’t done as well the last few weeks, but they’re a decent team.

“We know if we keep playing and get the rub of the green, there is a good chance we can get the three points.

“There isn’t that much difference between the two teams in the league at the moment.

“There isn’t a great deal of differences and it’s a fine margin between winning and losing.

“I watched their game earlier on against Southend United and they hit the cross-bar early on and hit the under-side and it came back out. It’s things like that, which can make a difference.

“Things are still settling down and it won’t be until another month before the table tells the true story.”
