John Askey Pre Charlton Athletic

Gaffer looks ahead to first away game of the season against Charlton Athletic

Shrewsbury Town face Charlton Athletic in Town’s first Sky Bet League One away game of the season.

Askey’s men will travel to The Valley in the search of three points after losing out to Bradford City on the opening day.

Askey is looking forward to the challenge, against one of the strongest teams in the league.

“It’s nice to have come to the end of the transfer window,” Said Askey. “Now we can concentrate solely on just playing. I’m glad it has come round.

“It’s going to be tough, Charlton are a good team and you would expect them to be in and around it, come the end of the season.

“It will be a good test for us and one I am looking forward to.

“They have a good tradition of being a strong team, they’ve got good players and I think they would be disappointed if they weren’t touching the Play-offs.

“We have to concentrate on ourselves and keep improving, that’s what we are going to do.”

John feels The Addicks style of play will prove to be a good test for his side so early on in the season.

“Against Sunderland they pressed the ball really well,” Askey said. “The two upfront are really quick and strong.

“All over they have got good players. They are athletic and experienced with a good mixture in there, so it’s a good test for our players.

“I’m sure it’s one they are all looking forward to.

“Getting that first win eases the pressure, so it’s something both teams are looking to do and hopefully that’s us.

“Hopefully we are going to go into that Charlton game stronger and more prepared than what we were for that Bradford game.”

Pay on the day is available for Town fans wishing to travel down on match day, at a £3 increase for Adults and Concessions.
