Club Captain looks ahead to Carabao Cup tie

Shrewsbury Town’s first cup fixture of the season gets underway tomorrow evening with the visit of Burton Albion.

The Brewers will travel to the Montgomery Waters Meadow for the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Town Club Captain Lennel John-Lewis is expecting a tough game from Nigel Clough’s men. He said: “We have got to play well,” Lenny said. “If we can play well, you never know how far you can go in the competition.

“We don’t know what side they will pull out, but I think for us it’s important from our point of view that we get the performance that we need and hopefully, we get the result.

“We know we’re going to play them in the league later on in the season, so if we can get that little one up on them, mentally it could be a bonus.

“We don’t know what team they’re going to put out, they might change it and there might be players coming in that are really hungry.

“For us, we have to perform and improve on what we have done.”

Lenny is hopeful his team can get a result against Burton and feels a good performance could spur his team on in the league.

“You can get big results against big teams further down the line,” Lenell said. “I think the club has now got a winning mentality from last season, we need to get that back and get the ball rolling.

“If we keep the performances going and keep improving, I’m sure we will get the win.

“You never know where it can take you. It can snowball in the league if you keep going in the cup, then you can get the wins in the league. Hopefully, we can get off the mark tomorrow.”

Town will welcome the Brewers for the 7:45 kick off and will be looking to progress into the next round.
