A look at how our players got on away from the club

Shrewsbury Town kicked off their season at the Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday, but across the country there were Town players making their mark out on-loan.

Ryan Sears and John McAtee joined AFC Telford United and Ashton United respectively late last week and both managed to get some game time this week.

McAtee came off the bench just 10 minutes into Ashton’s game against Nuneaton on Saturday, as he replaced the injured Mathias Bakare. The game lacked much goalmouth action, with McAtee having one of their best chances as he has a shot parried wide in the first-half. The final five minutes was an interesting affair as Nuneaton had their goalkeeper sent-off, with an outfield player replacing him, but he wasn’t tested with the game ending 0-0.

Meanwhile, Ryan Sears came on for the final 20 minutes of Telford’s opening day victory over Southport. The Bucks had taken the lead just three minutes before Sears’ introduction, with Amari Morgan-Smith grabbing the goal, and Sears was able to help see out the victory – a perfect way to start under new boss and Town old-boy Gavin Cowan.
