Stefan Payne joins Bristol Rovers for an undisclosed fee
Shrewsbury Town can confirm that Stefan Payne has joined Bristol Rovers for an undisclosed fee.
The striker has made the switch after making 51 appearances in blue and amber, scoring 14 goals along the way.
John Askey feels the move was right for both parties as Stefan moves on; the Shrews boss gave his thoughts to Shrewsweb.
“I think Stefan has enjoyed his time at Shrewsbury,” Askey said. “It was an opportunity to extend his contract and make more money.
“It was a difficult decision for him, but one he felt that he had to take.
“When I first came in, he said that the distance was a bit of a problem for him with having family in London and with getting settled.
“By going to Bristol, it gives him a chance to be closer to home.
“Stefan has worked really hard during pre-season, he’s got himself really fit. In the game on Saturday he worked hard without really getting much joy regarding chances.
“It’s a shame he’s gone, but again we have irons in the fire to try and replace him.
“I’ve not had a problem at all with Stefan, his attitude has been spot on all throughout and we all wish him well.”
Shrewsbury Town would like to thank Stefan for all of his hard work and dedication whilst at the club and wish him well for the future.
